HMHS CLASS OF 1963

Messages from Peggy Friend, Paul's wife:

Hi Denny,

I just wanted to pass on to you and the reunion committee that Paul passed away last evening after his courageous battle with cancer. I know that he loved working with the group and was sorry that he couldn't help with the planning of the next event.

He certainly was planning on attending if he was able.

We thank you for your friendship and keeping us in your prayers.

My best,
Peggy

I wanted to let you know that Paul is being cremated and we will have a gathering at our home on Saturday the 22nd from 6 to 8pm. Please pass this on to your list.

My best,
Peggy

HMHS Class of 1963,

Your reunion planning Committee met this afternoon to discuss the feasibility of holding a 45th reunion. In the last 3 weeks, we have been in contact with 105 members of our class and there is significant interest among them for breaking tradition and having a reunion after 5 years.

Although nothing is firm yet, we considered the responses you have made in the last 3 weeks and made some tentative decisions today:

1. Based on interest shown, a 45th reunion will be attended by a sizable number of classmates.
2. The reunion should be in the Haddonfield area. (It is much easier to plan that way, and if we want another location, maybe that would work for the Big One in 2013.)
3. It should be over a weekend. That way, those returning from afar have multiple opportunities to reconnect with their classmates. There would be a variety of activities to select from.
4. The weekend should be in the fall. We are looking at the five weekends beginning with October 15, although November 22 may be a little late.

We are considering a model similar to our 40th where everyone could pick and choose the activities of greatest interest. That means, of course, that the venues have to be decided upon, with the most problematic being the class dinner (since many locations are already booked).

The Saturday activities would give you a chance to mingle with your friends from a half-century ago (sorry I said it that way, but it's true). Here are some ideas we put on the table:* *Guided walking tour of Haddonfield, perhaps emphasizing historicbuildings.*
*Walking tour of Collingswood, which is not the same town it waswhen we were in high school.*
*Guided walking tour of the Philadelphia historic district.*
*A few hours at the shore.*
*Time to just sit and chat.*
*Organizationally, Mark has again volunteered to keep our web site (http://www.hmhs63.50megs.com/) up to date.

There may be some current pictures that appear shortly.

Treasurer Stan will again handle the money and Rob Alleger is keeping the database up to date. Much else will need to be done. If you would like to organize something or help in any way, please let me know.

I have attached a preliminary questionnaire that will help us get a sense of what you are interested in doing. Please complete it and suggest other possible activities that we could consider. We'd probably have to offer several choices since if we all went to one, the numbers may be unwieldy. Your responses will be tabulated by Fred prior to out next meeting on Feb. 24. I have also attached a list of classmates for whom we do not have email addresses. We would clearly prefer to communicate by email, so having their email addresses would be most helpful. Do you know the email addresses of any of those listed? The other list is the lost list. We were in contact with the classmates in bold in 2003, so they should not be too hard to locate. However, those with asterisks will be problematic. Please let me know if you can help with any of them.
Speaking for the planning committee, we look forward to organizing a reunion that will be memorable for you.
